Proclamation
Whereas, New York State thrives on the unique stories, customs, and traditions of the individuals who reside here, and we are proud to stand with our neighbors in celebrating the milestones that shape our local neighborhoods, including our gracious and friendly Pakistani American residents as they honor their roots on the anniversary of Pakistan’s independence; and
Whereas, on August 14, 1947, Pakistan emerged as a sovereign nation, a historic milestone achieved through a profound struggle for self-determination, and despite the formidable challenges, complex borders, and monumental task of building a new state inherited at its birth, the country and its people demonstrated unwavering resolve, a rich cultural heritage, and an enduring spirit that laid the groundwork for their vital contributions to the global community; and
Whereas, the first Constitution of Pakistan went into effect on March 23, 1956, and the nation officially became the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, founded upon principles of democracy, pluralism, and freedom; and
Whereas, today, Pakistan connects a global diaspora of approximately nine million people living across the world, and this vibrant international network includes more than 680,000 individuals of Pakistani heritage in the United States, with over 90,000 proudly residing within the Empire State; and
Whereas, we commend our Pakistani American friends and neighbors, celebrating their legacy of deep family devotion, generous community hospitality, and their positive impact on our society’s social, cultural, and economic infrastructure as they achieve dynamic success in many fields, including health care, education, hospitality, community service, and entrepreneurship; and
Whereas, the 79th Independence Day of Pakistan stands as a beautiful testament to the enduring progress and joyful heart of the Pakistani American community, bridging rich traditions with future dreams, and enriching our lives with an overwhelming sense of happiness, gratitude, and pride;
