Governor Hochul Announces State Landmarks to Be Illuminated to Celebrate Diwali

15 State Landmarks to be Lit Red, Yellow, Pink and Blue the Evening of Sunday, November 12

Governor Issues Proclamation in Honor of the Festival of Lights; Read Proclamation Here

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced 15 landmarks across New York State will be illuminated red, yellow, pink and blue on the evening of Sunday, November 12 in celebration of Diwali. Governor Hochul also issued a proclamation formally declaring November 12 as Diwali in the State of New York.

"Diwali, also known as The Festival of Lights, is an important celebration of Hindu culture symbolizing the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance,” Governor Hochul said. “New Yorkers are grateful to our Indian and South Asian communities for their contributions and commitment to sharing their rich heritage. We are sending all who celebrate the warmest wishes for joy, peace and prosperity in the future.”

Landmarks to be illuminated include:

  • One World Trade Center
  • Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge
  • Kosciuszko Bridge
  • The H. Carl McCall SUNY Building
  • State Education Building
  • Alfred E. Smith State Office Building
  • Empire State Plaza
  • State Fairgrounds – Main Gate & Expo Center
  • Niagara Falls
  • The “Franklin D. Roosevelt” Mid-Hudson Bridge
  • Albany International Airport Gateway
  • MTA LIRR - East End Gateway at Penn Station
  • Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal
  • Moynihan Train Hall
  • Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park
