Video, Audio & Rush Transcript: Governor Hochul Responds to Threats to Reproductive Rights

Governor Hochul: “As a woman, I find this abhorrent – that even a place like New York State, the birthplace of women's rights and the Women's Rights Movement, could have our rights jeopardized if this becomes a national ban.”

Hochul: “I want people to know that we'll stand up and fight this with every breath in our bodies because this is America in 2024… we'll never, ever back down.”

Earlier today, Governor Kathy Hochul responded to threats to reproductive rights following news that Donald Trump intends to pursue a nationwide abortion ban if elected President.

A rush transcript of the Governor's remarks is available below:

The news just recently came out that Donald Trump, a candidate for President of the United States, has said that he would support a nationwide ban on abortion rights. As a woman, I find this abhorrent — that even a place like New York State, the birthplace of women's rights and the Women's Rights Movement, could have our rights jeopardized if this becomes a national ban.

And I want people to know that we'll stand up and fight this with every breath in our bodies because this is America in 2024. This is not the Middle Ages, it is not a century ago, and women's rights should not be continued to be repealed and retracted and trampled on by anyone such as Donald Trump.

So we are going to engage in this fight. I thought it was important to know that we'll never, ever back down.
