Statement from Governor Kathy Hochul

“For the last 48 hours, my team has been monitoring the storm system that brought rain and flooding to downstate areas and ice and snow to upstate areas, particularly in the Capital Region. We have more than 6,000 utility workers in the state working to restore power. While the worst of the storm is over and snow and ice should taper off as the evening continues, we are closely tracking 80,000 power outages statewide — with a majority concentrated in the Capital Region. At my direction, State emergency response officials are in constant contact with impacted counties and utility companies, especially National Grid, which has informed us that most outages will be restored later tonight. As the cleanup continues, we urge all New Yorkers to take precautions: stay off the roads, don’t crowd the plow and avoid downed power lines.”
