“High winds and heavy rain are causing damage throughout much of New York, especially in Central New York and the North Country. The National Weather Service has issued several tornado warnings and there are unconfirmed reports of a tornado touching down in both Lewis and Cortland counties; flash flood warnings are currently in effect for parts of the North Country, Central New York and Mohawk Valley regions. At my direction, the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has been communicating closely with impacted communities and emergency management personnel to offer any necessary assistance. With more rain expected overnight, it’s critical for all New Yorkers to monitor their local forecasts, prepare for changing conditions and abide by road closures and other guidance. Most importantly, don’t attempt to drive through standing water — that decision could prove deadly.”
