"It is unacceptable to have one criminal justice system for the rich and another for everyone else. To fix a system biased against the poor, I proposed far-reaching criminal justice reforms this year that included eliminating monetary bail for people facing misdemeanor and non-violent felony charges.

"I applaud Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. for following our lead and protecting New Yorkers from injustice. The District Attorney's decision, which follows similar decisions by his counterparts in Manhattan and Brooklyn, is another step forward in our efforts to build a fairer and more equal criminal justice system.

"I look forward to building on our momentum and passing much-needed legislation this session, ensuring that New York State will continue to serve as a beacon of justice and equality for all."
