"Today's ill-advised action by the Trump Administration to begin the process to formally withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement is disgraceful, alarming and bad public policy. New York and states across the country are witnessing first-hand the effects of climate change as we struggle to combat extreme weather and devastating wildfires. Not only is the Trump Administration actively trying to thwart our nation-leading state work to combat climate change, it continues to double down on a global scale. The American people are demanding action. In New York, not only are we listening, we are acting.
"That is why when the President announced his intention to withdrawal on June 1, 2017, I, along with Governor Jerry Brown of California and Governor Jay Inslee of Washington, created the U.S. Climate Alliance to uphold the goals of the Agreement. Even as the Trump Administration continues its unprecedented assault on our environment, New York and the rest of the U.S. Climate Alliance remains committed to not only upholding our goals but leading the nation in new actions that will meet the urgency and demands of the growing climate crisis."
