Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that New York State landmarks will be lit red tonight, May 4, in honor of International Firefighters Day.
"Each day firefighters put their lives at risk to make our communities safer and we thank them for their service," Governor Hochul said. "On International Firefighters Day, we recognize the dedication and sacrifice of firefighters past and present around the globe - New York State is a better place because of their service and we are forever grateful."
The landmarks to be lit in celebration of International Firefighters Day include:
- Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge
- Kosciuszko Bridge
- The H. Carl McCall SUNY Building
- State Education Building
- Alfred E. Smith State Office Building
- Empire State Plaza
- State Fairgrounds - Main Gate and Expo Center
- Niagara Falls
- The "Franklin D. Roosevelt" Mid-Hudson Bridge
- Grand Central Terminal - Pershing Square Viaduct
- Albany International Airport Gateway
- The Lake Placid Olympic Jumping Complex
- Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal
