Governor Hochul Announces Nominee for the Commission on Ethics in Lobbying and Government

Public Comment on Nominations Can Be Submitted Here

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the Executive Chamber's third nominee to the Commission on Ethics in Lobbying and Government. In accordance with the Independent Review Committee's procedures adopted earlier this year, the public will have seven business days to provide comment on the nominee. The nominee will then be presented to the Independent Review Committee, which is composed of the deans of New York's law schools, for review of her qualifications to serve on the Commission. The Independent Review Committee's procedures for nominations are available here.

"The Commission on Ethics in Lobbying and Government is a crucial body aimed at holding government accountable and increasing transparency and accountability to benefit New Yorkers," Governor Hochul said. "I am pleased to nominate Ms. Whittingham for the Committee's review and look forward to continuing our work to support the Commission's efforts to restore trust in government."

Kaylin L. Whittingham has been nominated to serve on the Commission on Ethics in Lobbying and Government. Ms. Whittingham is the former president of the Association of Black Women Attorneys and currently is the Principal and Managing Attorney at Whittingham Law, her law firm specializing in the laws of professional responsibility for lawyers. Previously, Ms. Whittingham was the Staff Counsel of the Attorney Grievance Committee in the First Judicial Department in the Appellate Division for the New York State Supreme Court, and a Staff Attorney in the Mental Hygiene Legal Service.

Earlier this year, Governor Hochul nominated Michael A. Cardozo and Frederick A. Davie to the Commission on Ethics in Lobbying and Government; both nominees were approved by the Independent Review Committee and are currently serving on the Commission. Governor Hochul first proposed replacing the Joint Committee on Public Ethics with a new independent ethics agency as part of her 2022 State of the State agenda and signed a law creating the Commission on Ethics in Lobbying and Government in April 2022.
