Governor Hochul Announces More Than 15,000 Summer Job Opportunities

Resources Are Available for Youth Workers Looking to Enter the Workforce

New York State Department of Labor's Seasonal Job Bank Features Thousands of Jobs for New Yorkers Looking for Summer Opportunities

Governor Kathy Hochul announced today a record number of summer job opportunities available to New Yorkers in a variety of industries, in every region of the state. From amusement parks and restaurants to farms and summer camps, the New York State Department of Labor's Seasonal Job Bank already has over 15,000 jobs posted with more to come as we roll into the summer months. New Yorkers can access the Seasonal Job Bank here.

"Employers are hiring in record numbers and there are so many great opportunities available to New Yorkers looking to gain valuable experience and make some extra money over the summer," Governor Hochul said. "With such an active job market, there is a wide variety of options to explore across the state. I encourage all job seekers to use the many resources the New York State Department of Labor offers to guide them to a job they love."

Guides for young New Yorkers looking for work are available online to educate them on what they need before filling out job applications. The guides are broken down by ages 14-17 and 18-24 and cover important topics like getting working papers, proper identification, resume preparation, and much more.

The free New York State Department of Labor resource allows businesses to list their openings and job seekers can browse part-time and seasonal jobs by location, company, and job title and search by keyword.

Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon said, "In this tight job market, we're looking to make it as easy as possible for businesses with full-time, part-time or seasonal openings to connect with New Yorkers looking for work. We have a multitude of free consultation services and solutions available, so I encourage any business with hiring needs to get in touch with us."

Part-time work is a critical piece in helping the State's economy recover and provides additional opportunities to job seekers such as:

  • Helping them to return to a previous career that may not have full-time positions available;
  • Allowing them to try a new career or different position;
  • Working while learning new skills at the same time;
  • Providing flexible schedules that accommodate child and elder care needs;
  • Opening the door to potential full-time jobs;
  • Building a new community for support and job networking; and
  • Improving self-esteem

In addition to the Seasonal Job Bank, DOL has several resources available to help connect job seekers of all ages to gainful employment.

New Yorkers who are unemployed are encouraged to take advantage of the State's Career Services resource page, view more than 250,000 job postings from all regions in the state and across all industries on New York's Jobs Express website at labor.ny.gov/jobs, increase their skills through the State's online learning platform in partnership with Coursera, and utilize the State University of New York's SUNY FOR ALL free Online Training Center.

DOL is also producing a new video series focusing on cool seasonal jobs available throughout New York during the summer months and beyond.
