Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today issued the following statement after the announcement of the reopening of the federal government:
"Is this what you call the art of the deal? Federal workers are not political pawns and a shutdown is not a winning negotiating strategy. We can't do this again in three weeks."
Earlier today, the Governor demanded President Trump reopen the government as flights were being halted at LaGuardia Airport due to reduced Air Traffic Control staffing under the federal government shutdown. The Governor's comments came after he issued a letter to President Trump demanding that he end the federal government shutdown in the face of the growing threat to airport security, warning that the reduction in services and personnel at airports was putting the safety of air travel in jeopardy.
