"Earlier today, hateful graffiti was found scrawled on the wall of Chelsea Chabad in New York City — the latest in a spate of attacks against the Jewish community including the deadly shooting targeting a Kosher supermarket in Jersey City just days ago.

"This despicable act was meant to inject fear in our Jewish communities and intimidate all New Yorkers, but we categorically reject anti-Semitism and hate in all its forms and we band together in the face of such cowardly behavior.

"I am directing the State Police Hate Crimes Task Force to offer assistance in the investigation of this repugnant incident — we will find those responsible and hold them accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Additionally, out of an abundance of caution I am also directing State Police to continue to enhance its presence at synagogues and other Jewish establishments across the state.

"Let me be clear: in New York we have zero tolerance for the cancer of hate and bigotry that is spreading across this country and we will continue to call it out whenever and wherever we see it."
