Governor Cuomo Announces Three Mass Vaccination Sites to Cease Operations as Part of Ongoing Downscaling

Sites at Suffolk County Community College - Brentwood, SUNY Ulster, and the Javits Center in New York City Are Scheduled to Cease Operations July 9

State to Continue to Focus on Communities with Low Vaccination Rates, Partner with Local Health Departments, Providers and Community Leaders

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that three mass vaccination sites will cease operations as part of the ongoing downscaling that will allow the State to focus on localized vaccination efforts. As part of the downscaling which followed the achievement of milestones that allowed the State to lift COVID-19 restrictions, the sites at Suffolk County Community College - Brentwood, SUNY Ulster, and at the Javits Center in New York City will cease their operations following vaccinations on Friday, July 9.

Over the course of weeks and months, a number of additional sites will demobilize as part of the strategic downscale based on demand, proximity to other vaccination sites, and other locally focused efforts. The transition reflects the State's plan to focus resources in areas where the vaccination rate is lower than the statewide average through collaboration with local stakeholders, community members and partners.

"We have achieved great progress in beating back the virus and getting enough New Yorkers vaccinated in order to begin getting back to life as we know it, and our mass vaccination sites were key in helping us get here," Governor Cuomo said. "As we continue our mission to make the vaccine accessible in every community and to focus our efforts on the areas with lower vaccination rates, we are proceeding with the downscaling of mass vaccination sites so that we can shift resources to where they are needed the most. We are eternally grateful to our health providers and our partners who continue to do the necessary work to get more shots into people's arms, and if you still need to get your shot, the best way that you can show your gratitude is to walk into a site near you and roll up your sleeve."

Last month, the Governor announced a series of pop-up vaccination sites will open in areas with lower vaccination rates, building on the State's commitment to make the vaccine accessible in all communities across the state.

New Yorkers are encouraged to continue to utilize the Am I Eligible tool to make appointments and check on the availability of vaccine at State-run mass vaccination sites. All open sites continue to offer walk-in vaccinations for all eligible individuals.

The COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker Dashboard is available to update New Yorkers on the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine and includes vaccination data by zip code. The New York State Department of Health requires vaccinating facilities to report all COVID-19 vaccine administration data within 24 hours; the vaccine administration data on the dashboard is updated daily to reflect the most up-to-date metrics in the state's vaccination effort.

New Yorkers who suspect fraud in the vaccine distribution process can now call 833-VAX-SCAM (833-829-7226) toll-free or email the state Department of Health at [email protected]. Hotline staff will route complaints to the appropriate investigative agencies to ensure New Yorkers are not being taken advantage of as the State works to vaccinate the entire eligible population.
