Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced Taste NY is partnering with Amtrak to bring New York-made products to travelers both in- and out-of-state, and those visiting from across the globe. Through the Taste NY pilot program, Amtrak passengers traveling to destinations across New York State – New York City, Niagara Falls, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany – and outside New York to and from Toronto, Montreal and Rutland, Vermont can now enjoy locally-produced snacks and craft beverages on select Amtrak trains.

"New York companies produce some of the best food and beverages anywhere, and through the Taste NY program, these great products are getting more and more exposure across the state and around the globe," Governor Cuomo said. "This exciting new partnership means that the approximately 1 million people traveling on these Amtrak lines will be able to experience for themselves some of the best products New York has to offer."

To kick-off this new partnership, New York food and beverage items will be available on the snack cars of 13 New York trains. Amtrak estimates that approximately 1 million passengers travel these routes annually.

The initial launch of the program includes KIND bars (Manhattan, NYC), Always Bagels (Bohemia, Long Island), Chobani yogurt (New Berlin, Southern Tier), Sweet Sam's coffee cakes (Bronx, NYC) Brooklyn Defender IPA (Brooklyn, NYC), Ommegang Witte Wheat Ale (Cooperstown, Mohawk Valley) and Nine Pin Cider (Albany, Capital Region).

Taste NY products will be available on the following Amtrak trains:

  • Maple Leaf (63/64), with round trip service between New York City - Niagara Falls - Toronto.
  • Adirondack (68/69), with round trip service between Montreal - Albany - New York City.
  • Empire Service (280/281/283/284/288), with round trip service between New York - Albany - Syracuse - Rochester - Buffalo - Niagara Falls.
  • Ethan Allen Express (290/291/292/293), with round trip service between Rutland - Albany - New York.

Amtrak Vice President of Customer Service Tom Hall said, "Amtrak is pleased to work with Governor Cuomo and the State of New York to provide locally-sourced food and beverage items for café service on Empire Service trains. This new partnership builds on the growing success of the Taste NY initiative, which is now in more than 50 locations statewide. This year alone, Taste NY added a new bistro at the Javits Center in New York City, a new marketplace at the Lock E-13 Living History Rest Area in the Mohawk Valley, a Taste NY Café in the newly renovated West Bathhouse at Jones Beach, and Taste NY Bar at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater on Long Island. New York products marketed under Taste NY branding can also be found in major travel hubs, sports and entertainment venues, and throughout New York State parks. Through Governor Cuomo's continued investment in the program, gross sales of Taste NY participants tripled from 2014 to 2015 and sales are expected to double this year.
