Taste NY Marketplace to Showcase Top Food and Beverage Producers from Across the State

Supports Governor's State of the State Initiative to Expand Taste NY Presence at Major Sporting Events Across the State


Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced a new pop-up Taste NY Marketplace at THE NORTHERN TRUST golf tournament, which is taking place through August 27 at the Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury on Long Island. The tournament is expected to draw more than 200,000 fans and is the first event in the PGA TOUR's FedExCup Playoffs. Building on the success of the Taste NY Café at the 2016 Barclays tournament at Bethpage State Park, the new Taste NY Marketplace will feature products and exclusive dishes from some of New York's top chefs, restaurants, farms, and food and beverage producers. 

"We're proud to bring this world-renowned golf tournament back to the Empire State and we are using this opportunity to expose more people from New York and beyond to the great products grown and produced in every corner of this great state," Governor Cuomo said. "By expanding the Taste NY Marketplace, we are able to put the spotlight on even more local businesses and help create more demand and economic activity that will have ripple effects on Long Island and across New York." 

Following the Governor's State of the State initiative to increase Taste NY's presence at major sporting events, the expanded Taste NY Marketplace will expose visitors to more of New York's world-class agricultural products and cuisine. To highlight participating producers and officially welcome tournament spectators to the Marketplace, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul participated in a ceremonious ribbon-cutting.

"Governor Cuomo has made an historic commitment to advocating for New York's growers, and the Taste NY Marketplace is a great way to share our culinary offerings with visitors of The Northern Trust golf tournament," said Lieutenant Governor Hochul during the ribbon cutting ceremony today in Old Westbury. "Our partnership with the PGA provides a venue to promote our state, sell our products, promote tourism and most importantly - bring more jobs to NYS."

Located adjacent to the 16th fairway, the Marketplace includes a large selection of food and beverage stations selling seafood, meats, bakery items, cold-pressed juices and more, from farms and producers across the state. Fans can also enjoy exclusive menu items from top chefs and iconic New York restaurants such as Junior's Cheesecake, Nathan's Famous hotdogs, David Chang's Momofuku Spicy Chicken, Marc Forgione's Lobster Press and Mario Batali's Mario by Mary.

In addition, vendors throughout the golf course will be offering New York products. Visitors can look for the Taste NY logo next to locally-sourced items on the menu.

Under Governor Cuomo's leadership, New York has secured a half-a-dozen significant professional golf tournaments to be held at state-owned courses. The Barclays was held at the Black Course, which is part of Bethpage State Park, in 2012 and again in 2016. The tournament is scheduled to return in 2021 and 2027. Additionally, Governor Cuomo announced an agreement with The PGA of America to bring the 2019 PGA Championship and 2024 Ryder Cup to the famously challenging course. 

"New Yorkers love their food, and we couldn't be more excited to be working with the State of New York on the Taste NY Marketplace," said Julie Tyson, SVP-Championship Management for the PGA TOUR. "This venue showcases what a New York food experience is all about, from the world-class chefs, to locally-sourced ingredients. Our fans are going to be blown away by the experience."

New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard A. Ball said, "We are excited to be working with the PGA TOUR again this year to bring a one-of-a-kind food destination to the tournament. Thanks to Governor Cuomo's leadership, the Taste NY Marketplace will be bigger and better than ever. New York State is a mecca of incredible cuisine and we are proud to show visitors from all over the world what we have to offer."

Marcellino, said, "The Taste NY Marketplace at the PGA TOUR is a wonderful opportunity to show people from around the country what New Yorkers have always known, that the best foods in the country are right here in our great State. I am pleased to stand with Governor Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor Hochul to highlight New York's outstanding agricultural products and delicious foods."
