Governor Cuomo Announces Seven New Pop-up Vaccination Sites at Airports Across New York State to Reach More Individuals Who Still Need to Get the COVID-19 Vaccine

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced seven new pop-up vaccination sites at airports in New York City, White Plains, Albany, Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo. The sites will be open for walk-in vaccinations on a first come, first served basis utilizing the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. This new program to bring the vaccine to more convenient locations and reach more New Yorkers builds on the recently launched successful pilot program that brought pop-up sites at MTA stations.

"Our vaccination pop-up sites have been instrumental in helping us reach more New Yorkers who need to get vaccinated, and given the success of our pilot program at subway and train stations across the MTA network, we are getting creative once more by bringing the vaccine to our airports," Governor Cuomo said. "This vaccine is the best weapon that we have to defeat COVID, and we will go anywhere we need to get more shots into people's arms. If you are traveling through or working at one of these airports or just happen to be passing through and you still need to get vaccinated, I encourage you to make time to get your shot so we can finally defeat this virus."

The sites will be open from Monday, May 24 to Friday, May 28 at the following airports:

• JFK International Airport
• LaGuardia Airport
• Westchester County Airport
• Albany International Airport
• Syracuse Hancock International Airport
• Greater Rochester International Airport
• Buffalo Niagara International Airport

Senator Tim Kennedy, Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, said, "New York continues to think outside the box in order to ensure the COVID-19 vaccine is accessible in every community. These airport pop-up sites will only amplify opportunities to get vaccinated, and further educate people about why it's so important to do so. By bringing these doses directly into transportation hubs that people use every day, we're intentionally dedicating resources to highly trafficked facilities and connecting directly with people looking to receive the vaccine quickly and efficiently."

Assemblymember William Magnarelli, Chair of the Assembly Transportation Committee, said, "Vaccination sites at airports are a great step towards giving as many people as possible access to the COVID vaccination. It is ideal that people who are traveling are vaccinated to prevent the continued spread of this virus. These sites offer opportunities for travelers to be responsible and do their part in stopping this pandemic."

The COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker Dashboard is available to update New Yorkers on the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. The New York State Department of Health requires vaccinating facilities to report all COVID-19 vaccine administration data within 24 hours; the vaccine administration data on the dashboard is updated daily to reflect the most up-to-date metrics in the state's vaccination effort.

New Yorkers who suspect fraud in the vaccine distribution process can now call 833-VAX-SCAM (833-829-7226) toll-free or email the state Department of Health at [email protected]. Hotline staff will route complaints to the appropriate investigative agencies to ensure New Yorkers are not being taken advantage of as the State works to vaccinate the entire eligible population.
