Second Location of Family-Owned Business Will Create At Least 24 New Jobs
Project Complements “Finger Lakes Forward” – Region’s Successful Upstate Revitalization Initiative Blueprint to Grow the Economy and Create New Opportunities
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the opening of a new McAlpin Industries manufacturing plant in the Town of Walworth, Wayne County. The family-owned metal working company will also continue its operations in Rochester, where it has been headquartered for more than 50 years and employs 148 workers. The new, 120,000 square foot manufacturing plant and warehousing facility will allow the company to create at least 24 new full time jobs.
"This expansion is the latest success of our strategy to drive economic growth across the state by investing in the strengths of each region," Governor Cuomo said. "By creating new jobs and generating new economic activity, the new plant of this family-owned business will contribute to our successful initiatives to grow the regional economy and drive the Finger Lakes forward."
Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, who attended the ribbon cutting, said, "Today’s opening and jobs announcement demonstrates the continued success of an economic development strategy that leverages millions of dollars in private investment and creates jobs. After a half-century in business, McAlpin is expanding in Walworth and strengthening its commitment to the entire Finger Lakes region. Through the REDCs we are once again establishing Upstate as a place of opportunity for skilled workers in the advanced manufacturing sector."
Economic support and assistance from local and state agencies allowed this project to move forward. Empire State Development will provide McAlpin Industries up to $400,000 in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits in return for job creation commitments. The investment from McAlpin Industries totals $5,850,000.
Empire State Development President, CEO & Commissioner Howard Zemsky said, “For more than fifty years, McAlpin Industries has worked tirelessly to establish itself as an international leader in the sheet metal processing business. Thanks to Governor Cuomo’s unwavering commitment to upstate revitalization efforts, McAlpin will now be able to continue to grow and offer good jobs to the Finger Lakes highly skilled workforce.”
McAlpin President &CEO Ken McAlpin said, “All of us at McAlpin Industries are thrilled that we are expanding our business into Wayne County. This new building provides us with the opportunity to grow a product line through complete integration of robotic welding, powder coating, and assembly.”
Wayne County Industrial Development Agency Executive Director Peg Churchill said, “The Wayne County Industrial Development Agency is so pleased to add McAlpin to the Wayne County community. The investment they have made in the Town of Walworth will not only create manufacturing jobs but their creativity and community outlook have provided an opportunity for sports groups, public and private, to have a spot for practices and games. We welcome them!”
Senator Mike Nozzolio said, “It is wonderful to see business expanding into Wayne County and continuing to foster the growth of jobs in the region. The benefits of this new facility will be felt not just in Walworth, but in the surrounding area as well.
Assemblyman Robert Oaks said, “It’s very positive news for an established company such as McAlpin to choose to expand in Wayne County and create new employment opportunities. It is great for the area to be recognized as having the kind of skilled workforce that McAlpin needs to continue to grow. I hope this will trigger other companies to look to Wayne County for their expansion plans.”
Walworth Town Supervisor Patti Marini said, “On behalf of the Walworth Town Board, we are extremely happy that McAlpin Industries has chosen to come to our community and we look forward to their success and continued community involvement.”

Accelerating Finger Lakes Forward
Today's announcement complements “Finger Lakes Forward,” the region’s comprehensive blueprint to generate robust economic growth and community development. The State has already invested more than $3.4 billion in the region since 2012 to lay the groundwork for the plan – investing in key industries including photonics, agriculture and food production, and advanced manufacturing. Today, unemployment is down to the lowest levels since before the Great Recession; personal and corporate income taxes are down; and businesses are choosing places like Rochester, Batavia and Canandaigua as a destination to grow and invest in.
Now, the region is accelerating Finger Lakes Forward with a $500 million State investment through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative, announced by Governor Cuomo in December 2015. The State’s $500 million investment will incentivize private business to invest well over $2.5 billion – and the region’s plan, as submitted, projects up to 8,200 new jobs.
