WYSIWYG

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that Bridgestone APM Company, a subsidiary of Bridgestone Corporation – the largest tire and rubber manufacturer in the world, has opened in its newly constructed 65,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in the Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County. Less than one year after breaking ground, the $13.6 million project is complete and is projected to create at least 89 new jobs over the next five years.

"Bridgestone APM Company's move to Western New York underscores the state's commitment to the region and its growing manufacturing sector," said Governor Cuomo. "New York continues to attract private investment from businesses across the globe and today, we are proud to welcome Bridgestone to the Empire State."

The new manufacturing facility, owned by the Montante Group, was built on an 11-acre site in the Vantage International Point industrial park in the Town of Wheatfield. The Montante Group invested $6.5 million to construct the building and Bridgestone APM Company invested more than $7 million for the purchase of new machinery and equipment. The project will receive up to $1.2 million in performance-based Excelsior tax credits from Empire State Development in return for the creation of 89 new jobs at the manufacturing facility. The completion of this project will enable Bridgestone APM Company to produce polyurethane foam seats for the automotive industry and export products to Canada, a strong supporter of its automotive market.

Empire State Development President & CEO Howard Zemsky said, "The addition of Bridgestone's state-of-the-art factory to Niagara County is a success story that nearly 100 workers will be a part of, as they further their careers in advanced manufacturing. We welcome Bridgestone to Western New York, knowing the company will benefit from its new factory location – in close proximity to the Canadian border."

The project also received tax incentives from the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency that are estimated to save the company almost $3.2 million over the 15-year life of the abatement. In addition, a grant of up to $750,000 from the New York State Office of Community Renewal will be used to offset a portion of the cost of machinery and equipment to support the project.

Executive Vice President of the Foam Products Division at Bridgestone APM Company Taka Ishibashi said, "The Montante Group adhered to an extremely tight timeline to construct our facility to allow for scheduled equipment installation in order to meet future production goals. Bridgestone APM Company would like to thank the Montante Group, the State of New York, Invest Buffalo Niagara, the NCIDA, the Town of Wheatfield and all those involved in helping us to meet our goals in the selection of the site and construction of the building."

President of Bridgestone APM Company Duke Kawai said, "Bridgestone APM Company was very pleased with the expedited completion of the building so that BAPM can move forward to meet its goals for future production. We are excited that this new location in Niagara County, New York is the next step in growth for Bridgestone APM Company. Bridgestone APM Company continues to take its responsibility very seriously to be a responsible and long term corporate citizen and local supporter in all of the communities in which we have facilities."

Chief Operating Officer for Montante Group Matt Montante said, "We at Montante Group are proud to have successfully collaborated with Governor Cuomo, ESD, the NCIDA, and all of our project partners to successfully complete this dynamic new manufacturing facility for Bridgestone APM. It has brought new jobs and private sector investment to Niagara County, and proves that Western New York is a home for innovative new manufacturing opportunities. We look forward to working with Bridgestone APM in the future."

Senator Rob Ortt said, "This multi-million dollar facility is a vital part of moving our region forward with the creation of dozens of quality manufacturing jobs and the potential to spark new development. Working with our partners in Canada, I'm hopeful Bridgestone will further strengthen our economy, and become an asset to our community for years to come."

Assemblyman John D. Ceretto said, “I applaud Bridgestone and their decision to invest in Western New York. These new jobs are evidence of the economic revival going on in the region. I thank Governor Cuomo for his continued work in uplifting our local economy. The best is yet to come."

Niagara County Legislature Chairman Wm. Keith McNall said, "Bridgestone is a marquis brand that will burnish Niagara's reputation as a great place to do business. As a former automotive industry employee myself, I'm always pleased to see automotive part manufacturing remain a vital industry in Niagara County, and the addition of a Fortune 500 giant like Bridgestone in our county-operated business park reflects the business climate we offer. It also, though, reflects hard work by the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency, our partners at Empire State Development, and county leaders to effectively market our proximity to three major border crossing points. One of Tokyo's top companies is now one of Niagara County's best new businesses."

Niagara County Legislature Economic Development Committee Chairwoman Kathryn L. Lance said, "We offer convenient access to the Canadian market, and that has been a selling point our Niagara County IDA and our friends at ESD have emphasized when marketing our region, but equally important is a proud tradition of manufacturing excellence. Niagara County's workforce come ready to do the serious work of manufacturing products that the international business community demands. With the addition of Bridgestone, Niagara County gains a serious, respected automotive industry leader - plus 90 new jobs and a 65,000 square-foot manufacturing facility. This is what real economic development looks like."

Invest Buffalo Niagara President & CEO Tom Kucharski said, "We are thrilled to join Governor Cuomo, TM Montante Development and our colleagues in Niagara County in welcoming Bridgestone APM to their new manufacturing facility here in Niagara County. Attracting such meaningful investment and job creation from a global brand like Bridgestone, in an extremely competitive process, speaks volumes about our great regional assets and the tremendous value associated with our teamwork. Thanks to BAPM President Duke Kawai and his entire team for their faith in our community."
