Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the appointment of Lynn Marinelli as the Director of Intergovernmental Relations at Empire State Development (ESD) in the Western New York office.
As we continue to transform Western New York and create new economic opportunities for the region with major initiatives like the Buffalo Billion, I am pleased to welcome Lynn Marinelli to our team at ESD, Governor Cuomo said. Ms. Marinelli has served the people of Erie County for more than a decade, and now she will bring her wealth of firsthand experience and knowledge of the community to her new role. I commend her dedication to public service and am confident she will help strengthen our efforts to build on the exciting investments and developments that are moving Western New York forward every day.
Ms. Marinelli will bring extensive experience and a record of accomplishment in serving the residents of Buffalo and Erie County to the position. Most recently, she was a member of the Erie County Legislature. In the Erie County Legislature, she chaired the Community Enrichment Committee, which has oversight of Erie Community College, and was a member of the Economic Development, Finance and Management and Health and Human Services committees. She has served on the Buffalo & Erie County Workforce Investment Board since its inception and on its Strategic Planning Committee. She was also a member of the Erie County Industrial Development Agency Board of Directors. Throughout her 17-year legislative tenure, she has worked on the funding and governing of the countys capital projects. In addition to her career in the Erie County Legislature, Ms. Marinelli has served on multiple community boards. She began her career writing for UPI and coordinating public relations for the Buffalo Bisons. She was also the Executive Director for the Countys Womens Commission.
Its been a true honor and privilege to represent North Buffalo and the Town of Tonawanda in the County Legislature since 1997, Ms. Marinelli said. Its an even greater honor, thanks to the confidence of Governor Cuomo, to now serve the residents of our broader region, particularly with so many exciting projects underway in Buffalo and Western New York. The Governor has made a priority of the development and success of so many initiatives that are literally changing the landscape of our region. I look forward to helping to continue the incredible momentum the Governor has generated throughout Western New York.
The Intergovernmental Relations Directors role will be to facilitate the dozens of present and future projects by working as a liaison with all levels of government, business and community constituencies. Ms. Marinellis responsibilities will include making recommendations to partner agencies, associations, councils, coalitions, and advocacy groups to promote, develop and implement project initiatives; helping to set the tone, climate and vision for ESD in Western New York. She will work to identify and develop ESDs agenda and priorities in the region, and formulate strategies that create opportunities for ESD to advance these priorities. Ms. Marinelli will also monitor and track economic-related legislation and budget initiatives that impact ESD, serve as the point of contact and liaison for members of government and business community, represent ESD of Western New York at public and private meetings with elected officials, community groups, business organizations and job creation entities; and assist in planning and executing events for ESD including public meetings, briefings, business visits, and press announcements.
