Goals and Tasks
The New York State Anti-Hate in Education Center & Inaugural Convening served as the final product from a year’s worth of analysis, collaboration, and discussion designed to result in practical policy-oriented solutions.
It is tasked with:
- Serving as an intellectual hub that brings together experts in academia and government to analyze, research, and brainstorm solutions to complex hate and discrimination issues;
- Building alliances across partner institutions and organizations, fostering collaborative efforts to identify opportunities for collective action;
- Developing education and training for a range of stakeholders across New York State;
- Making recommendations about effective and equitable policies to combat hate crimes and discrimination;
- Articulating strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of anti-hate initiatives.
Agenda
New York State's Anti-Hate in Education Center Inaugural Convening on Antisemitism was held on December 5, 2024 at The Center of Jewish History in New York City.
Opening Remarks by Steering Committee Co-Chairs – Co-Chairs provided an overview of the Anti-Hate Center, Governor Kathy Hochul's decision to highlight antisemitism, and the working groups efforts that led to the convening.

Session I
Part I: Contextualizing Antisemitism - Educators and experts on antisemitism defined antisemitism, provided a brief history of antisemitism, and examined its impact on education.
Part II: Responding to Antisemitism through Education - Experts shared how antisemitism can be addressed through education (at the P-12 and Higher Education levels).
Session II Synchronous Sessions
Session I: Addressing Antisemitism, Promoting Civil Discourse in Higher Education, & Creating Safe Environments on Campuses - This panel provided higher education faculty and administrators with strategies for promoting civil discourse, creating safe environments for Jewish students, and addressing antisemitism on college and university campuses.
Session II: Strategies, Resources, and Best Practices for Teaching Holocaust and Antisemitism Education in P-12 - This panel provided P-12 educators and administrators with comprehensive strategies, resources, and best practices for effectively teaching about the Holocaust and antisemitism in New York State school environments.

Highlight New York State’s Response to Antisemitism - Focused on New York State’s Agencies' Response to Antisemitism in Education with the goal of allowing participants with an avenue for addressing antisemitism and what New York State has to offer.
