Albany, NY (November 9, 2012)

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that American Honda Motor Company, Inc. has donated 100 generators that will help power warming and comfort stations to assist in relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy. These generators arrived in New York this afternoon and will be delivered today to fire departments in the hardest hit areas in Nassau County.

“The needs of New Yorkers impacted by Hurricane Sandy are great, and the generous assistance from corporate partners like Honda is more than welcome,” Governor Cuomo said. “These generators will be essential in keeping warming stations powered and running in the most impacted areas of Nassau County so that local residents have a place to go if they are cold. I encourage other corporations to provide any help they can offer.”

The 100 Honda EU2000 portable generators are included in packages that also have pelican lights, cords, fire extinguishers, power strips and gas cans. The delivery of these packages is being coordinated by the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC) and Incident Management Team (IMT) with county and local fire department officials. They will target the hardest hit areas in the county, in particular the heavily damaged area south of Merrick Road.

“At Honda, we are working to be responsive to people in need in New York and on the East Coast on a number of fronts,” said Stephan Morikawa, Assistant Vice President of Corporate Community Relations at American Honda. “The Honda family of companies in North America, and our associates, dealers, suppliers, customers and others affiliated with the company are pitching in to respond to this very tough situation.”
