Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the following appointments to positions within the Executive Chamber.
- De'Shawn Wright, formerly Deputy Mayor of Education in Washington, D.C. will serve as Deputy Secretary for Education.
- Ian Rosenblum, formerly Secretary of Policy & Planning in Pennsylvania Governor Rendell's administration, will serve as Director of Policy Coordination.
- David Lobl, formerly Director of Public and Government Affairs at Human Care Services for Families and Children, Inc., will serve as Community Representative.
"Each of these individuals will bring years of experience, as well as new energy and fresh ideas to our efforts to rebuild New York State," Governor Cuomo said. "I look forward to working alongside these new members of the administration as we serve the people of this state."
De'Shawn Wright, Deputy Secretary for Education
Since January 2011, De'Shawn Wright has served as Deputy Mayor for Education in Washington, DC where he was responsible for the creation and implementation of a citywide 'birth to 24' strategy that includes early education, K-12, post-secondary education and workforce development. Mr. Wright began his career in public education as a Teach for America corps member in 1998, teaching middle school grades in New York City. Upon completing his fourth year as an educator, Wright worked in the New York City Mayor's Office of Operations as a policy analyst, overseeing the operations, programs, and services of city agencies within the Business Affairs Unit. Wright returned to the New York City Department of Education in 2003 as the program manager for school and corporate partnerships in the Office of Strategic Partnerships, and later worked in the Office of New Schools as well as the Office of the Chancellor. Mr. Wright joined the senior leadership team for newly elected Newark Mayor Cory Booker in August 2006, serving initially as the City's education advisor before becoming Chief Policy Advisor to the Mayor. Mr. Wright attended James Madison University as an undergrad and earned a Master in Public Administration degree from New York University's Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service in 2002.
Ian Rosenblum, Director of Policy Coordination
Ian Rosenblum was a member of Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell’s Office of Policy & Planning for nearly seven years, serving as Secretary of Policy & Planning at the end of the Administration. He has focused extensively on education policy, with additional experience in strategic communication, state budget development and other policy areas including workforce development and tax reform. Mr. Rosenblum has also served as policy director for two gubernatorial campaigns. He was most recently a Vice President at Civic Entertainment Group in New York City, supporting the NBC News Education Nation initiative. Mr. Rosenblum graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received a Master’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government.
David Lobl, Community Representative
David Lobl will serve as a community representative and liaison, focusing on outreach to New York’s Jewish population. Mr. Lobl will leave his post as Director of Public and Government Affairs at Human Care Services for Families and Children, Inc. where he has served since January 2012. Prior, he served in the same position for The Friedlander Group, a public relations and political advocacy firm. Lobl holds a Bachelor of Talmudic Law from Derech HaTalmud and has studied at Aderes Hatorah in Jerusalem.
