Albany, NY (July 26, 2012)
Almost 20,000 NYSEG customers are without power in the following counties: 9800 in Chemung; 4900 in Steuben; 570 in Tioga; and 4500 in Broome.
National Grid is reporting 1,060 customer outages in Jefferson and Cattaraugus Counties and expects these customers to be restored by 7:45 this evening.
Utilities are beginning to deploy crews from Western New York and Rochester to the affected areas to assist with restoration. NYSEG is responding to the outages with local crews and arranging for 50 additional line crews, 20 additional tree crews, and damage assessors to assist in the Elmira restoration. Public Service Commission Chairman Garry Brown has been in contact with all the state's utility CEOs to be assured that they are in full deployment status and are ready to address the impact of the storm.
Other utilities are reporting minor outages at this time. All of the electric utilizes are still on heighten alert and are monitoring conditions.
