Event Capitalizes on the Match between Golf and Taste NY that Began at Last Year’s PGA Championship in Rochester
Springtime in New York State Means Golf Season has Finally Arrived
Albany, NY (March 21, 2014)
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that Taste NY food and beverage producers will occupy the 19th Hole at the Empire Golf Expo, which will take place at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany from March 28 through March 30. In addition to the latest products and services for the casual and serious golfer, at least 15 exhibits will be on display at the Taste NY 19th Hole.
“The combination of golf and Taste NY started last year at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill, and next weekend it continues at the Empire Golf Expo in Albany,” Governor Cuomo said. “The Empire Golf Expo will bring thousands of New Yorkers together to not only prepare for the upcoming golf season, but to enjoy some of the best foods and beverages our state has to offer at the Taste NY 19th Hole. I encourage visitors to the Capital Region to come to this golf and Taste NY experience next weekend.”
As part of this Taste NY experience, on Friday, March 28, Angelo’s 677 Prime of Albany will host a reception for Expo vendors, golf course owners, restaurant managers and chefs after the show featuring New York grown and produced items.
Acting State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said, “The Taste NY experience championed by Governor Cuomo is about opening new markets for New York agricultural producers and cracking the golf market represents a huge opportunity for our industry. The reception for vendors will provide local growers and agricultural producers with a great opportunity to put their products in front of people who make the decisions on what foods go on the menu while the Expo will expose Taste NY products to thousands. We want 19th holes across the state to feature New York foods and beverages and this event will be a catalyst in helping us do just that.”
The Empire Golf Expo’s 19th Hole, presented by Taste NY, will feature food and beverage purveyors from all over New York State who will be sampling and selling their unique products to the Expo attendees. Attending the event will be Hillrock Estate Distillery (Ancram), Adirondack Distilling Company (Utica), Thousand Islands Winery (Alexandria), Guyank Brand (Ozone Park), Dutch’s Spirits (Pine Plain), Cheeky Monkey Foods (Syracuse), Pa’s Pistols Sweet Hickory Sauce (Salem), Merritt Estate Winery (Forestville), Sylvan Beach Deli Mart (Sylvan Beach), Applegrove Farms (Mexico), Miles Wine Cellars (Himrod), Lake George Distilling Company (Lake George), and Woodbury Vineyards (Fredonia).
Staff from the Taste NY program will be at the event all three days to provide attendees with information on the Pride of NY Pledge for New York restaurants and the Pride of NY labeling program. Staff from I Love NY will also be on hand to provide information on New York State tourism.
The Empire Golf Expo provides attendees with an interactive experience comprised of seminars and discussions, meet and greets with golf professionals, and a wide range of upscale products and services geared for both the casual and serious golfer. About 60 vendors representing golf resorts, local country clubs and restaurants, industry representatives from various golf companies. This event will also feature the only indoor ReMax World Long Drive qualifier in the country.
Ed Unser, Co-Organizer of the Empire Golf Expo said, “We couldn’t be more pleased that the Empire Golf Expo is returning to the Capital Region. I heard great things about Taste NY at the PGA Championship in Rochester last August and we believe that because of that buzz, a stronger bond is being created between New York agriculture and the golf community. It’s a winning combination that we expect to grow over the next few years.”
The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is currently seeking applications from New York food and beverage purveyors, as well as caterers, who are interested in participating in future Taste NY venues such as special events, tourism destinations, festivals and/or fairs.
