Governor Cuomo introduced the New York State Adventure License Series, providing New Yorkers and visitors the opportunity to purchase lifetime licenses to fish, hunt and visit New York State Parks, as part of his efforts to enhance sporting and recreational opportunities, support outdoor enthusiasts and boost tourism throughout the state. Governor Cuomo launched the Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program that will train approximately 100,000 New Yorkers during 2014 in the proper preparation for emergencies or disasters. Governor Cuomo travels to the Tug Hill region in the North Country to launch “I [Snowmobile] NY,” the first part of a print, television, radio and digital, nationwide, $4.5 million winter tourism campaign aimed at promoting snowmobiling, skiing, and other recreational activities in Upstate New York. Governor Cuomo announces the opening of the first Taste NY store in New York’s LaGuardia Airport at Delta Air Lines Terminal C. In addition to the Taste NY stores at LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy airports, there is also a Taste NY store at McArthur Airport in Islip and a display at Buffalo-Niagara Airport. Other Taste NY stores are scheduled to open in 2014 in New York airports, train stations, and transportation hubs.
Governor Cuomo announced $715.9 million has been awarded to over 824 projects through Round Three of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. The initiative empowers community, business, and academic leaders, as well as members of the public in each region of the state, to develop strategic plans specifically tailored to their region's unique strengths and resources that will further our economic growth.
Governor Cuomo congratulates 180 new members of the State Police at the 200th session graduation ceremony from the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. The graduation ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Hall in Albany where the new troopers marched into the convention center in a procession lead by the New York State Police Pipe and Drum band.
As part of his Buffalo Billion initiative, Governor Cuomo announced that New York State will build a state-of-the-art anchor hub facility for high tech and green energy businesses at RiverBend in the City of Buffalo. Two California-based companies, Soraa and Silevo, will collectively invest $1.5 billion and relocate major parts of their operations to Buffalo creating 850 permanent jobs and at least 500 construction jobs.
