DMV representatives at the Glen will help racing fans order custom plates
Governor Cuomo announced that the new, redesigned NASCAR license plate series will be available to order at the Cheez-It™ 355 at Watkins Glen International, taking place this weekend. Representatives from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles will be on hand at the race to provide customer service, including to help visitors order the custom plates, renew their registrations, assist with address changes, schedule road and vision tests, and complete web transactions.
“New York is proud to host this world-class event at the Glen, and we’re taking this opportunity to offer these new license plates to NASCAR fans as well as showcase the new, more convenient and more user-friendly DMV,” Governor Cuomo said. “I urge those attending this race to stop by the DMV booth and take advantage of the services they have to offer.”
“Voted the best NASCAR racetrack in the entire country according to USA Today, New York is excited to be a top destination for motorsport enthusiasts everywhere,” Lieutenant Governor Hochul said. “These new license plates are a prime example of our State’s strong partnership and promotional campaigns with the sport. With Governor Cuomo in the driver seat, we will continue to generate record-breaking tourism numbers that generate real economic impact for New Yorkers.”
The redesigned custom NASCAR license plate series, which can be found and ordered here, reflects the changing numbers of drivers and their racing colors, and adds a new checkerboard background and face. There are now 12 NASCAR designs featuring an updated look for Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Danica Patrick, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, as well as the Dale Earnhardt NASCAR Hall of Fame, NASCAR fan, and Richard Petty Historical plates. All NASCAR plates are available in both passenger and commercial classes.
The Danica Patrick license plate is brand new this year, while the Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick, and Brad Keselowski plates have been revised with a new number and/or sponsor. NASCAR plate holders are billed for the plates every two years upon registration renewal. The initial fee for these special plates is $60, with an annual renewal for $31.25. Personalized NASCAR plates carry an initial fee of $91.25 with an annual renewal fee of $62.50, in addition to the vehicle registration fee.
DMV Executive Deputy Commissioner Terri Egan said, “DMV is thrilled to partner with Watkins Glen and bring the new-and-improved plates directly to NASCAR’s incredible fans. I applaud Governor Cuomo for continuing to provide DMV with opportunities to connect with motorists, build upon its customer service initiative, and provide New Yorkers with quick, streamlined services.”
The Cheez-It™ 355 at the Glen supports Governor Cuomo’s commitment to tourism and investments that continue to grow the industry statewide. As a result of the state's support of tourism, the industry has seen an increase in spending, state and local tax revenue, visitors, and employment. In 2014, tourism statewide had a $100.1 billion economic impact, the highest in New York history.
