Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that tickets are now on sale for the Taste NY Harvest Fest at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, which will provide visitors with an opportunity to sample and purchase some of the best foods and beverages in the entire state. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, November 2 and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 3 in the Horticulture Building.

 

Since it began earlier this year, Taste NY has been a catalyst to help us spread the word that products grown and made in New York are among the best in the world, Governor Cuomo said. Events like the Taste NY Harvest Fest not only create fans for homegrown food and beverages, but boost our economy by supporting our farmers, brewers, and manufacturers. I encourage New Yorkers to come to the Fairgrounds on November 2 and 3 and taste the best that the Empire State has to offer.

 

The event gives people an opportunity to meet with vendors and sample their products, gather information, and purchase their favorite items. Dozens of companies from around the state will be on hand, from well-known brands such as Syracuses Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and Gianelli Sausage, McCadam Cheese of Chateaugay, and Uticas F. X. Matt Brewing Company, to companies aiming to gain better household recognition, such as Rome Grown Garlic of Rome, Ma Pooles Chutney of Skaneateles, Rogers Rustic Rubs & Sauces of Hudson Falls, and Hungry Bear Farms of Middlesex.

 

Many makers of wine, beer, and spirits will also be on hand. Among the companies confirmed so far, besides F. X. Matt, are Merritt Estate Winery of Forestville, Casa Larga Vineyards of Fairport, Adirondack Distilling Company of Utica, Americana Vineyards and Winery of Interlaken, Three Brothers Winery of Geneva, and Thousand Islands Winery of Alexandria Bay.

 

Ticket sales for the event begin Friday, October 18. Prices are $15 for tickets purchased in advance or $20 at the door. Advance sale tickets can be purchased in person, over the phone, or by fax. To purchase in person or by phone, visit or call the State Fair administration building during business hours on weekdays, where the receptionist will complete the purchase. The receptionist can be reached at (315) 487-7711, extension 1001. Tickets purchased over the phone or by fax can be picked up at the reception desk during business hours, or can be picked up at the event, at the Will Call window. The form to fax is available on the New York State Fair website, www.nysfair.org. All admissions include a free Taste NY beer or wine glass with which to drink samples.

 

Karen Willand, outside sales manager for Casa Larga Vineyards of Fairport, said, This festival will be a great time to celebrate the new harvest season, to sample New York foods and beverages, and to be introduced to products theyve never seen or heard of before.

 

Its important to support New York food producers and companies, said Jean Lewis, owner of Mean Dawgs Mustard of Leonardsville, Madison County. People who come to Harvest Fest will see and taste high quality products, including our mustard. Well show you that our mustard isnt just for pretzels and sandwiches, and I know that people will get new ideas at our booth and at many others.

 

There are so many good things about products made in New York, said Judy Provo, owner of Pas Pistols Sweet Hickory Sauce of South Glens Falls. The Taste NY Harvest Fest will open everyones eyes to the great things made in New York and the benefits of buying locally. This will show people that theres more to New York than they see.

 

Taste NY was launched by Governor Cuomo to highlight New York's food and beverage industry, ultimately making the States wide variety of products readily available and recognizable to New York residents, tourists, and the world.

 

Taste NY is also a major component of the Governors $60 million tourism campaign the largest such campaign in decades. The program publicizes New York-made food and beverage products via promotions such as Taste NY tents and pavilions at food and wine events and Taste NY stores and kiosks located at Thruway rest stops and soon at airports and other transportation hubs such as Grand Central Station. In 2013, Taste NY has already had a large presence at the PGA Tournament in Rochester and the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse.

 

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fairs website.
