Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that concertgoers will be treated to a Taste NY experience at the Farm Aid 2013 concert being held at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on September 21. Thirteen beer, wine and cider vendors from across the state will be selling their products at the Taste NY tent as part of the backdrop to this annual concert event in support of the tradition of agriculture.
There may be no better venue to showcase New Yorks wine, beer and cider than at the Farm Aid 2013 concert as we celebrate the history and role of agriculture in our state and country, Governor Cuomo. Not only will there be great music at the event, but also some of the best food and drink to enjoy here in New York so I encourage concertgoers to stop by the Taste NY tent to sample these local products and support our producers and farmers.
Taste NY will add a local beverage experience for Farm Aid 2013 concertgoers. We are proud to include New York's craft beers, wines, and cider at Farm Aid 2013, said Farm Aid Associate Director, Glenda Yoder. Farm Aid values the New York State programs that increase opportunities for the farmers who are growing hops, grains, grapes and apples.
New York beer, wine and cider vendors taking part in the Taste NY experience at Farm Aid 2013 include the New York State Brewers Association, Empire Brewing Company (Syracuse), Browns Brewing Co. (Troy), Saranac Brewery (Utica), Lake Placid Brewery (Lake Placid), Captain Lawrence Brewing Company (Elmsford), Brooklyn Brewery (Brooklyn), Davidson Brothers Brewing Company (Glens Falls), Adirondack Brewery (Lake George), McKenzie's Hard Cider (Buffalo), Swedish Hill Winery (Romulus), Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards (Hector) and Bedell Cellars (Cutchogue). Sixteen ounce cups of beer and cider, and five ounce quantities of wine will be available for purchase in the tent.
Paul Leone, Executive Director of the New York State Brewers Association said, Farm Aid insisted on having New York State craft beers at this event because we are an important agricultural product. Some brewers selling their products at this event will be farm brewers, showcasing materials made with ingredients grown directly from local farmers. This will be an interactive Taste NY showcase that Farm Aid patrons will not soon forget.
Jim Trezise, President of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation said, The Farm Aid concert is the latest Taste NY event to showcase New York wines before thousands of consumers. We really appreciate this opportunity and the many ways Governor Cuomo continues to support New Yorks wine industry.
In addition to the Taste NY tent, a FreshConnect Youth Market, co-sponsored by the state Department of Agriculture and Markets in cooperation with GROW NYC, will sell fresh fruits produced by New York State farmers at the concert.
Tom Strumolo, Director of Greenmarket Planning and Policy at GrowNYC said, Were so thrilled to partner each year with our friends at Farm Aid who do so much to support family farms and strengthen local food systems. GrowNYCs teen-run farm stands are one of the ways we increase food access where we work in New York City particularly in neighborhoods where finding even an apple is a challenge. At the same time, were growing teenagers who are earning money and becoming the next generation of advocates for the good food good health movement. At this years stand youll find produce sourced from upstate New York Farms. Well see you at the stand!
Taste NY was launched by Governor Cuomo to highlight New York's food and beverage industry. Its goal is to make the wide variety of foods made and grown in the state readily available and recognizable to New York residents, tourists and the world. Taste NY is also a major component of the Governors $60 million tourism campaign the largest such campaign in decades. The program publicizes New York-made food and beverage products via promotions such as Taste NY tents and pavilions at food and wine events and Taste NY stores and kiosks located at Thruway rest stops and soon at airports and other transportation hubs. In 2013, Taste NY has already had a large presence at the PGA Tournament in Rochester and the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse.
