Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that nearly two dozen New York State wineries will showcase their products under the Taste NY Pavilion at the 25th annual Boston Wine Expo. The Boston Wine Expo is the Northeast’s largest wine and food event and draws approximately 8,000 distributors and consumers. New York wineries from Western New York to Long Island will have the chance to connect with new business opportunities and reach new consumers during the two-day event.

“New York State is home to some of the best wines in the world, and this weekend we are introducing them to thousands of potential new customers,” Governor Cuomo said. “Through the Taste NY initiative, New York wineries have earned well-deserved national and international acclaim, and we are thrilled to build on that success this weekend.”

This marks the second year that New York State has had a presence at the Boston Wine Expo. Eight wineries from Western New York, the Finger Lakes, and the Capital Region will be participating for the first time. The Boston Wine Expo is regarded as one of the premier wine trade and consumer shows in the country. Now in its 25th year, the event features seminars, tastings and networking events, and continues to be open to both distributors and consumers.

To help consumers purchase and remember their favorite wines, the Expo has partnered with the Drync app. Consumers get wine details in seconds by taking a photo of the front label and can order New York State wines through the app for in-store pick up or delivery from their favorite retailer. Expo attendees will also use the app to vote on their favorite wines at the show by scanning the labels, which Drync and the Expo will broadcast as the "Top Trending” wines.

Jim Trezise, President of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation, will hold a seminar titled, “Class by the Glass: The Taste of New York Gold.” He will showcase a range of New York State wines, all of which have won gold medals at major wine competitions.

State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said, “Over the past several years, we have seen the New York wine industry grow and receive worldwide recognition. Through Governor Cuomo’s Taste NY program, we are introducing more craft beverage companies to a broader base of consumers and expanding opportunities for those in this important industry.”

Jim Trezise, President of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation said, “We greatly appreciate the support of Governor Cuomo and the Taste NY program that allows New York wineries to participate in this very important wine show. Massachusetts is a promising market for New York wines, especially now that consumers may now buy wine directly from New York wineries, and the Boston Wine Expo is the perfect event for stimulating sales to both the trade and consumers. I’m hopeful my tasting seminar of New York Gold medal wines will open a lot of eyes and palates to the great quality of wines we now produce.”

A list of New York wineries participating in the event is as follows:

About Taste NY

Taste NY is an initiative launched by Governor Cuomo in 2013 to promote New York’s food and beverage industries. It is overseen by the Department of Agriculture and Markets and has created opportunities for local producers to showcase their goods at large public events, such as the Great New York State Fair. The program has also opened stores at Thruway rest stops along the state’s highways and in transportation hubs, enabling travelers to buy New York State’s homegrown and homemade products. Approximately 1,100 local companies have participated in these opportunities, further linking their products and the state’s growing food and beverage market to consumers from across the globe.
