Labor for Your Neighbor: Help in the Hurricane Irene Recovery

Printer-friendly version

Governor Cuomo launched a volunteer effort called “Labor for your Neighbor” on Labor Day weekend to assist in local clean-up efforts in the areas where storms brought extensive flooding and damage. Over 2,000 volunteers signed up to work over the weekend to help those in flood-stricken areas clear their homes of the debris left behind by the storm.

Additional opportunities may arise for volunteers to assist with recovery efforts associated with Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, as well as any future weather events. When the need for volunteers occurs, you will receive further instructions regarding times, locations, and how to prepare. The National Guard and State Office of Emergency Management will provide supervision and safe transport to the sites.

You can also help though donations. To donate funds, click on the “contribute” button United Way of New York will pass on your donation to a registered charity in an area hit hard by the storm. Every dime you donate will go directly to assisting storm victims.

Please note that registration for this weekend is now closed. Please register if you would like to be considered for future volunteer efforts. Thank you!
