Statement from Governor David A. Paterson Regarding the Award of Federal Funds for High-Speed Rail in New York
Governor Paterson issued the following statement regarding the award of $151 million to New York State for high-speed passenger rail:
"I am very pleased to learn that the State will receive $151 million for high-speed passenger rail projects in northern and western New York. These funds will allow us to eliminate bottlenecks, modernize stations and improve passenger service both from Albany to Niagara Falls and from Albany to northern New York and Montreal. Improving the intercity passenger rail service is critical to the economic recovery and development of these regions and our communities will benefit from this investment in the short- and long-term. I have directed the State Department of Transportation to expedite the projects funded today so that we can quickly put New Yorkers to work.
"I am grateful to President Obama and Secretary of Transportation LaHood for their commitment to our revitalization. I also applaud the entire New York State Congressional Delegation for their commitment to these projects, and give special thanks to Congresswoman Slaughter, who was vital to moving this cause forward."
