STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR DAVID A. PATERSON ON THE HAITIAN RELIEF EFFORT
“As the immediate relief effort underway in Port-au-Prince is on-going, New York State continues to work with City, State and Federal officials to identify needed resources. The thoughts and prayers of all New Yorkers continue to be with the Haitian community overseas and here in New York during this difficult time.
“At this time, several organizations are accepting monetary donations for the relief effort. Some of these organizations and information on how to donate is listed below, and posted on www.ny.gov/archive/paterson/press/HelpingHaiti.html.
The American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is pledging an initial $200,000 to assist communities impacted by this earthquake. They expect to provide immediate needs for food, water, temporary shelter, medical services and emotional support.

To donate by text: “HAITI” to “90999” and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill.

Operation USA
Operation USA is appealing for donations of funds from the public and corporate donations in bulk of health care materials, water purification supplies and food supplements, which it will ship to the region from its base in the Port of Los Angeles.

Direct Relief
Direct Relief is committing up to $1 million in aid for the response and is coordinating with its other in-country partners and colleague organizations. Their partners in Haiti include Partners in Health, St. Damien Children's Hospital, and the Visitation Hospital, which are particularly active in emergency response.
