STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR DAVID A. PATERSON

“On behalf of Michelle and the Paterson family, I would like to wish all New Yorkers a very happy and healthy 2010.

“Today, we turn the page on a difficult year for our State and our nation. This past year, we have seen too many foreclosed homes and boarded-up businesses. The unemployment lines have been too long. And it has been too hard for many families to put food on the table. As Governor, I have had to make decisions that I never before contemplated, in order to keep our State solvent.

“The crisis is not yet over. However, because we have made the tough choices and shared the sacrifice, New Yorkers stand ready to meet the challenges and the opportunities of a new year. I know that if we continue to do what is necessary – rather than what is easy – we will recover. As we begin this new decade, I am thankful for our shared strength and hopeful for our shared future. Happy New Year.”
